My name is Gracie Beth Scrushy and that's just a small sampling of the names I’ve been called and the questions I’ve been asked. Born with Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, a rare birth defect with numerous visible symptoms, I’ve experienced my fair share of taunts, questions and curiosity. Some have been so cruel I wanted to crawl inside a hole never to be seen again. My self-esteem and self-worth suffered as a result of me choosing to believe the opinions of others rather than believe that I was wonderfully made just the way I am.
Eventually growing tired of the cut-downs and believing deep down that I shouldn’t feel insecure, I knew I had to rise above the voices telling me that I wasn’t enough. I want to live my best life, and began to accept and appreciate my differences and speak out about my condition. Each time I tell my story, I gain more strength, more restoration in my confidence, more normality, more affirmation that body differences do not make me or anyone else an exception, but instead encourage others that mindset determines exceptionality.
I hope you join this movement and when voices tell you that you aren’t enough, you will rise above them and believe, “I'm wonderfully made!”
There is strength in numbers and I hope you will connect with me and share your story or video on social media and hashtag it #wonderfullymademe. Together we can encourage each other to embrace our differences and accomplish things for our world that we were uniquely created to achieve.
Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
